Puppy TRAINING FAQs

  • Your puppy’s sensitive socialize window lasts from 3-14 ish weeks of age. It is best to begin actively socializing your puppy as soon as they’re settled into your home, which is prior to getting all of their vaccinations. Socializing your puppy safely can be done in a variety of ways, from bringing opportunities to your puppy, to driving your puppy places to watch the world, or carrying them, while working through a detailed socialization program that entails more than just meeting other people and dogs. Great socialization should help your puppy feel positively about the things they may encounter during their life with you.

  • The simple fact of the matter is that your puppy is always learning. They are learning what is safe and unsafe around them, how to get their needs met, and building negative/neutral/positive associations with the various contexts they are exposed to. On that note, you want to make positive socialization a way of life as there will constantly be opportunities for you to make experiences positive for you puppy, as well as reinforce behaviors that you like.

  • We recommend puppies are at least 10 weeks of age before attending Puppy Kindergarten and Puppy Socials. For private training or home visits, they can be as young as 8 weeks of age. Keep in mind, we can always consult on puppy socialization and training well before you bring home your puppy in order to help you create a plan for when you do bring your puppy home.

  • We offer puppy training in Portland, Gresham, Troutdale, Happy Valley, and even world-wide since private lessons can be offered virtually.

Testimonials

  • Noodle

"Working with Meaghan at Dog Flower has been so empowering and enriching for both us and our new canine bestie, Noodle. We adopted Noodle as an adult rescue guy and have felt so blessed to be guided by Meaghan as we welcome him into our home and routine. Presented with separation anxiety and a high level of general anxiety, we have found so much comfort and most of all- improvement in our training relationship! Introducing a new family member can be so stressful, and there is so much information out there about what you’re supposed to do and not do- having professional guidance you can trust makes all the difference. I have no doubt we will bring Meaghan in any time we adopt from now on."

  • Raider

"As a giant breed dog owner, I know firsthand how critical it is to have a strong training foundation that begins at puppyhood. Meaghan has worked with 4 of my Mastiffs over the years both through classes, socialization groups and private training, and has transformed them from shy, nervous puppies into confident, well-adjusted adults that thrive both at home and in public. They are a confident, personable and extremely knowledgeable trainer who has years of experience with every size and breed of dog you can think of. No matter the issue, Meaghan has always been there ready to help! Would 100% recommend."
